He's after me: the hungry Verizon salesman. A guy named David calls me about once a week and since I now recognize his number, I don't answer. But when I finally do, I have some things to say to young David.
1. I don't like, want nor need a smart phone. They are too smart for me.
2. I won't spend money on a new phone and you can't coerce me to do so.
3. I remember learning in a college advertising class that there are different methods of getting people to buy. One is called "bandwagon." I won't be lured onto your phone bandwagon.
4. While I am amazed by the apps on my daughter's iPhone, I resist the urge to want one.
5. Now that I've learned to text without an actual keyboard, it works for me. Why, I've learned a new language!
5. And anyway, what's wrong with the phone I've had for almost two years? I don't ever remember getting a new phone growing up. Our phones lasted 25 years!
6. And David, you need to get inside a middle-aged person's head. I'm trying to simplify, not complicate my life. Just leave me alone with my dumb phone.

I have an "old" clamshell phone. No texting, no querty keyboard, no apps. Just a simple cell phone that's about 8 years old and it works just fine. I don't want to text, I don't need any apps. I'd rather be less connected than more.
haha, funny Lyn! I didn't want to text at first, but it's come in handy staying in touch with kids all over the place. I have found that young people answer texts more promptly than phone calls!

I definitely love my iPhone. I resisted carrying a cell phone for a long time because I didn't see a need for one, I rarely make phone calls when I can't get to a landline. I still don't make many calls from the iPhone. BUT, I use the apps all the time. I saved slightly over $50 on my clothes dryer because I used the scanner and showed the salesman a cheaper price - that he was willing to match.
I also had a flat on the minivan. Used the iPhone to locate the nearest tire store, made an appt. AND used the kindle app to enjoy a free bestseller at the store while I was waiting. Sure, I prefer print books, but it's nice to carry five or six books on the phone just in case. :)
Plus having a couple of personalized music mixes on the phone to listen to, and I can take videos and pictures and play games and do puzzles - I even have a quilt design app.
